Does Jesus sleep? This morning we were asked if “Jesus - TopicsExpress

Does Jesus sleep? This morning we were asked if “Jesus sleeps” and if so, is that why bad things happen to us. The question brought tears to my eyes. What has brought someone to the point in their life that the only way they can deal with an “issue” is to come to the conclusion that Jesus has fallen asleep on them? First of all this thinking raises some series questions. How can someone call Jesus their Savior if they think He is so frail as to need sleep? How can we call Him Lord if things slip by Him because of sleep? If He sleeps for one person then He sleeps and misses things in everyone’s life. If we think He only allows something to slip by in our individual lives at times, then He is not all powerful, all knowing and sovereign. Also, what do you do with verses like: Psalm 121:3–4 (ESV) 3He will not let your foot be moved; he who keeps you will not slumber. 4Behold, he who keeps Israel will neither slumber nor sleep. Luke 12:6–7 (ESV) 6Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies? And not one of them is forgotten before God. 7Why, even the hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not; you are of more value than many sparrows. Hebrews 13:5b (ESV) … “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” Deut 31:6.8; Joshua 1:5; 1 Kings 8:57; 1 Chronicles 28:20; Ps 37:28; Ps 94:14 God is the same yesterday, today and tomorrow. Therefore, to be at the point in your life to come to the conclusion that “Jesus is sleeping” when something awful happens to you, is to deny that God is God and puts everything in the Bible into question. Bad things happen to good people and good people do bad things. When sin entered the world it corrupted God’s perfect creation. Even after we come to Christ the effects of sin on this world tear at our lives. I am so thankful when hard times come that there is a loving, caring Savior who knows everything about me and is working behind the scenes to heal wounds as well as bringing me to be able to forgive others. That is the least I can do after all He has done for me. According to God’s word there are no excuses for not forgiving others. Colossians 3:13 (ESV) Bearing with one another and, if one has a complaint against another, forgiving each other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive. Ephesians 4:32 (ESV) 32Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you. By His Grace, Mark A. Steckiel
