Does anyone else have the problem of not having the ability to do stall rest for an injured horse? Vets blithely assume everyone can put their horses on weeks/months of it without a second thought and chastise you if you say that isnt really an option. When my horse tore his tendon (the first time :-( ) almost 7 years ago I tried it. He proceeded to destroy the stall and rip his face up AND yes, he was on Ace. That was the end of stall rest. I made a smaller paddock for him and his buddy and he healed up just fine. My horses live out and this particular one hasnt really been in a stall in over 10 years. He has done it again and I have no desire to try locking him up as things are odds on to be even worse as my OTTB mare is his shadow and is they cant be together she is likely to get hurt trying to get to him. My horses are at home, sending him to a boarding stable to heal is not an option as that means my mare will go ballistic. I have 3 horses total and cant afford to send all 3 to a boarding stable. I was chastised by the vets receptionist (as I picked up bute) that if I dont put him on stall rest he will run and rip his leg up worse and it will be all my fault. She didnt care to hear that hes 23 and just stands around with his mare. I love my vet clinic, Ive never dealt with this person before.
