Does anyone else see a problem here? Sativex, a terrific - TopicsExpress

Does anyone else see a problem here? Sativex, a terrific medication being used to treat late stage cancer patients that is derived from Cannabis has been provided fast track status from the FDA. So here is the issue: Sativex is NOT a synthetic. It is actually derived from growing medical grade Cannabis in the UK. That means it contains THC, CBD and many other compounds from a whole plant concentrated process. It is then shipped to the US through its corporate partner Novartis, a massive big pharma corporation here in the USA. Problem is, in the USA, Cannabis is still a Schedule I drug, meaning according to our Federal Government The Drug or Substance has no currently accepted medical use in the treatment in The United States Now we have the FDA, which as we know stands for the Food and Drug Administration which is a FEDERAL agency fast tracking a drug that contains a Schedule I drug. How can this happen? How can the Federal Government play favorites with one bio tech company to the exclusion of ALL OTHER companies seeking to produce Cannabis based medicine? The hypocrisy must end! Either Cannabis does not have medical value, or it does. If it does, and it appears now that the FDA agrees that it does, then CANNABIS CANT BE A SCHEDULE I DRUG!!! Is this so difficult to figure out!? Now you see why for years we have been saying Cannabis IS Medicine! Please, TELL THE TRUTH FEDERAL GOVERNMENT! You cant have it both ways. Finally, thank you GW Pharma for doing your job so well that you have forced the Feds into this paradox. I wish all businesses based in the study of Cannabis were as professional as you. You are doing good things for the patient and the movement. Anything we can do to get Cannabis based medicines into the hands of the infirm who may find true benefit from the use of these medications is positive. nasdaq/press-release/gw-pharmaceuticals-announces-that-sativex-receives-fast-track-designation-from-fda-in-cancer-pain-20140428-00034
