Does anyone know much about Roses husband Gillette? I havent read much about him (or just sketchy stuff about her) in the four or five bios Ive read thus far... but in the book A LIttle House Traveler Laura is in San Francisco visiting Rose and Gillette. And Rose is paying Laura $5 a week to stay? Really? Not sure what that is about... and Rose is ALWAYS working so most of the time Laura is spending time with Gillette and in one of the letters back to Almonzo she posted it private (guess some of the letters Almonzo shared with neighbors and friends but in this one she says Gillette has a job on the Call for a week now, so he will feel better. I tell you, this being in a city and out of a job is no fun. This isnt the first time she talks ofhim no having a job... so did he just not want to work? or just couldnt find work? Also later on in the same letter she says The more I see of how Rose works the better satisfied I am to raise chickens. I intend to try to do some writing that will count, but I would not be driven by the work as she is for anything and I do not see how she can stand it. Lovely, Bessie So wonder if she did enjoy the actual writing of her childrens books and the bios she wrote a few years later?
