Does anyone remember seeing a conversation about bare legs here in this group? The woman on the right in this detail (lower left corner) from Bruegels Haymaking seems to have nothing on her legs, and maybe the woman in the back on the left. Then I noticed a picture from Kentwell where a couple of young girls were not wearing stockings. I wondered if there was reasoning behind it. It seems like we are constantly told not to let our ankles show, but does that apply so much for the lower class?
