Does anyone remember when Stray Haven was housed in the OBriens Smokehouse building across from OBriens? I got a puppy there for my daughter in the 60s and it soon died of distemper. When I checked with Stray Haven, they promised me another to replace it. It seems all their animals had to be euthanized due to the illness (distemper) spreading through the shelter. Things are so different today - you get a healthy, neutered dog, with shots and even psychological evaluation to see if it can co-exist with other animals, children, etc. It is a real service to the community as well as keeping check on abused and neglected animals.
