Does everybody wonder how I get so many kitties to ride the rails? Anybody can do it and it makes you feel like you are making a big difference in the world. First of all, you have to realize that in all probability your community has more unwanted cats and kittens than can ever possibly be adopted in your one county or city. Thats just a logistical and sad fact. So we must think bigger and work on long distance adoptions to get the right kitties to the right families. Get on down to that shelter and sign up to foster some unwanted kittens! Next take the CUTEST possible pictures and write up heartfelt descriptions. Post them ALL THE TIME! Also, post them on specialty FB pages if they allow. For example, I posted Tillie on Tortie Lovers United and found her a long distance home. Accept new friends on FB! If you decide they arent for you, you can always delete them later, but it is important to develop a lot of national friendships! Next, help the adopter through each step. Private message them or email them the adoption application, transport application, etc. Tell them each thing to do every step of the way. Communicate with the adopter, shelter and URRKN; tell them each thing that is happening and that is about to happen. Its a lot of communication and organization, but WORTH it! The people at URRKN are kind and will help you as well, but you will act as main facilitator. Hold a raffle, auction or other fundraiser to send URRKN a donation to keep this great organization going; its fun and easy!
