Does the Prince William County Republican Committee know that GOPer Bob FitzSimmonds, who is the Chief Deputy Clerk (linked here https://facebook/bob.fitzsimmonds?fref=ts) is wholly ignorant to history and apparently to anyone non-Christian? Below is the Islamophobic comment he just posted and the delightfully bigoted responses from Bobs constituents. I hope the Republican Party of Virginia condemns this intolerance as wholly un-American. To mark the end of Ramadan, on Sunday, Obama released a statement thanking Muslim Americans for their many achievements and contributions....to building the very fabric of our nation and strengthening the core of our democracy. It is one thing to be gracious on religous holidays, but this is pure nonsense. Exactly what part of our nations fabric was woven by Muslims? What about Sikhs, Animists, and Jainists? Should we be thanking them too? Heres just a small list of what American Muslims have contributed to America. 1) African Muslims arrived in America up to 500 years before Columbus and leaved peacefully with the Natives, even intermarrying. Read Ivan Van Sertima for more information. 2) Some 15-20% of Africans enslaved and brought to America were Muslims. Muslims helped build Americas infrastructure. Read UCLA Professor Khaled Beys recent work for more information. 3) LIke living healthy? Muslim Americans comprise 1-2% of Americas population but 10% of American doctors are Muslim. 4) Muhammad Ali, Kareem Abdul Jabbar, Hakeem Olajuwon, Shaquille ONeal are four of Americas greatest sports icons - All Muslim. 5) Yusef Lateef, Ahmad Jamal, Everlast, Lupe Fiasco, are four of Americas greatest Musicians - All Muslim. 6) An American Muslim was the architect behind the Sears Tower, American Muslims fight in our military, American Muslims teach in our universities, American Muslims vote, two American Muslims are elected members of Congress, Keith Ellison for Congress & Congressman André Carson. I can go on and on about American Muslim contributions to American history but for ignorant people, its all a farce. The irony is that Bob claims to have study history at Asbury College. Now we know the value of education there. Yes Bob, lets thank Sikhs, Animists, and Jainists too. And Jews, atheists, Hindus, pagans, and all people of all beliefs and no beliefs. Thats what equality means and thats what America stands for. Shame on you for being a public servant only in name, and not in action.
