Dog Training Tip of the Week. Clicker Training can expedite dog training very quickly when used correctly and when your timing is right. If you click on as little as 2 or 3 seconds after the desired behavior has been achieved, the dog does not associate the behavior you are marking and you might be inadvertently marking the wrong behavior. For example, if you use the visual hand cue or audio cue for sit, as the dogs legs are bending in the sit position, you should mark the sit with a click and reward. But if you dont have your timing down, ask your dog to sit, then click in as little as 2 or 3 seconds later, your dog might already be standing again. To practice timing of the click an easy way is to have a friend or family member bounce a ball against the ground. Each time the ball hits the ground, you click and with some practice your timing of the click can become very good. Here is a short video about clicker training.
