Doggie Family & Pals! We need your help TOMORROW, Thursday March 20th! Please call Nancy Pelosi at: (202) 225-4965 or (415) 556-4862 and express your concerns for the GGNRAʼs Proposed Dog Management Plan. Many dogwalkersʼ livelihoods weigh heavily on this plan NOT to be passed. Hereʼs your script! Please and thank you in advance for your help! [A] Iʼm calling you because the GGNRA has started restricting dogs before its dog management plan is complete and before the GGNRA has considered public input. [B] The GGNRA and Presidio Trust are about to impose a new rule about professional dog walking, even though that issue is part of the GGNRAʼs dog management plan. I urge you to prevent the GGNRA from implementing this rule and insist the GGNRA follow its own planning process before it begins restricting dogs. The GGNRA is circumventing its own process. The new rule would go into force in two months. [C] Iʼm worried that this rule is going to force many dogs into city parks and overwhelm the parks, because the proposed professional dog walker permit is expensive, restrictive and not aligned with local dog walker permits like the one in San Francisco. [D] Iʼm also worried that this rule could force many dog walkers out of business. Professional dog walkers are small business owners and canʼt afford these steep fees and restrictions. [E] It will also hurt many working people who own dogs and depend on dog walkers to exercise them during the day while theyʼre at work. If these dogs are cooped up in houses and apartments all day long with no exercise, we will see many more behavioral problems with Bay Area dogs. [F] I am concerned that trail use in Marin was changed last week. New signs now try to ban dogs on a trail where they are allowed on leash, and the GGNRA is insisting that people leash their dogs on two trails where dogs are allowed off leash. [G] We need our Congress members to get involved in these issues because the GGNRA is clearly not playing by the rules and clearly will not play by the rules. Please insist that the GGNRA involve Bay Area elected officials in the planning process immediately.
