Dogs dont chew (they tear and gulp, just chewing enough to break big pieces down so they can be swallowed.) This means that the nutrients in their fruit and vegetables are not absorbed unless we serve them ground (raw.) Grinding in a juicer, food processor or food mill breaks down the cellulose in produce, making the nutrition easier to absorb. This morning, I made juice for myself and a batch of ground produce for my babies. I included broccoli leaves and stems, swiss chard, carrots, blueberries, zucchini and watermelon. Most of it organic and local. They need much less fresh fruit and veggie matter than we do, so dont sweat it but a little is a good idea.
