Doing some LP transfers. Getting satisfactory transfers of organ - TopicsExpress

Doing some LP transfers. Getting satisfactory transfers of organ music from LP is difficult, since the organ has such a wide dynamic range and many were not well recorded or pressed. The results can have a flat sound, which I sweeten by artificially widening the stereo effect and adding a slight amount of reverb, trying to match the existing reverb so it does not sound unnatural. I also EQ using a modified RIAA compensation, to accentuate some bass and reduce trebles, over-and-above the preamp, trying to bring it into line with what one might expect out of a more modern recording.. The results are fantastic, yet subtle. Some of the recordings I have that are historically significant yet not of the highest quality I have brought to the point where they are enjoyable, and probably more closely resemble the actual dynamic features of the original recordings, which for me is the goal. This process has been about 12 years of tweaking in the making, and I have actually gone back and redone some of the transfers I made years ago, to utilize the newer process, with pleasurable results.
