Dolphin slaying: Child aims to kill lone dolphin with bow, 5 days of suffering. A lone dolphin slaying incident has sparked controversy this weekend, with a metal-tipped bow and arrow being used in the killing of a stray bottlenose dolphin earlier this month. A boy, stated to be just a child, reportedly fired the sharp weapon from a now confiscated bow and fatally struck the animal in its side. The Inquisitr reported this Friday, Dec. 19, 2014, that the injured creature likely took over 5 days of suffering to die from growing infection. A $100,000 fine may result from the child’s cruel actions A truly wrongful crime, says the press release, with the suspect behind a dolphin slaying now in police custody. The young suspect is said to have admitted his crime to Alabama officials, and given a written statement of confession. The dead bottlenose dolphin was discovered in an Orange Beach bayou with a grievous wound to its side. A fired arrow had been lodged there and caused a deadly infection that slowly and painfully took the animal’s life over the course of 5 days. The act of dolphin slaying is often met with fierce criticism from the public due to the fact that an innocent and intelligent animal like a dolphin should never be purposefully harmed or killed by humans. Much like dogs, harm against these creatures can lead to considerable consequences for those involved. The Alabama director for the U.S. Humane Society said that this boy’s act is utterly wrong and meaningless: “This intelligent, social creature experienced tremendous suffering from this senseless act.” It remains to be seen what charges, if any, will be filed against the male child for his crime this 2014.
