Domus once again hosted two sites for the IRS where trained volunteers prepared tax returns for low-income Stamford residents (average annual taxpayer income was under $24,000). This year, the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program at just our two sites is responsible for returning over $685,000 to the local economy! We helped over 200 people get the refund they were owed or pay their taxes accurately and on time, avoiding penalties. We are so grateful to our six VITA volunteers and Domus employee Mike Hyman, who runs the program at night in addition to running the Chester Addison Community Center. We helped so many people improve their lives by figuring out their taxes, plus we put money in their pockets that was or will be spent locally.
