Don Westwood USN –Ret. Don was peacefully promoted by the Supreme Commander on Sept 23, 2014. Don served honorably for 22 years in the US Navy including 2 tours, boots on ground, in Vietnam. Both tours were as a volunteer. Don was President and a founding member of Rolling Thunder Alabama 1. Don was a pillar of the veterans community and his passion for veterans causes were known by all. He Chaired the Alabama Department of Veterans POW MIA Ceremony Committee and developed what has become an annual event at the Capitol. Don was recognized for his leadership and contributions at the POW MIA Recognition Day 2014 Ceremony in Montgomery on 20 September 2014. Don received national recognition for his tireless efforts on behalf of POW MIA issues from the Department Of Defense and Rolling Thunder. Don was also recognized by Vietnam Veterans Of America National for organizing and leading the first Agent Orange Town Hall meetings in Alabama. They said they were the best that they have attended across the US. As past Vice President of Rolling Thunder Alabama Chapter-1, I would like to express my condolences to the family and friends of Don Westwood, President, RTAL-1 - The image was taken at the Vietnam Veteran Memorial in D.C. 2010, it speaks volumes of his efforts as a Veteran and Patriot.
