Donetsk: Mothers-to-be seek shelter from shelling in hospital basement The basement of the Vishnevskiy maternity ward in Donetsk was cramped on Sunday, as more than fifty pregnant women and medical staff took shelter to escape continuous shelling above. A maternity nurse working in the Vishnevskiy Hospital said that staff and patients occasionally run from the basement to the ward to use the bathroom, eat and grab necessities, but then immediately flee back down when the shelling resumes. In the last four days, three children were born in the hospital. Government authorities have tried arranging transportation for the mothers and mothers-to-be to bring them to safer locations. SOT Maternity nurse (in Russian): We have been sitting in the basement since 4:00. We occasionally go up to the ward for 10 minutes just to go to restroom, have our meal and take necessary things, but when the shelling starts again we run here.
