Donna McCasland, facility administrator for the DaVita location here on South Washington said her facility is 99 percent Medicaid funded. “If we cut it, it’d be $158,000 (lost) a year, just at my facility,” she said. Pena said in Gohmert’s district alone, there are 390 DaVita dialysis patients. Between the two facilities in Marshall, there are 100 patients. At Gilmer, there are 44 patients. DaVita officials said they’re not only worried about potential closures as a result of lower reimbursement changes; they’re also concerned about having the means to continue to pay their staff. “This is one of the concerns I have. If it goes through, what are we going to have to do? Can our social workers continue to work 40 hours? Are we going to have to cut back staffing our technicians who have these patients lives in their hands every day, that have the direct care, so we have to work short we have to cut back everybody’s hours,” said LeBlanc. She said if that happens, the patients and their families will suffer.
