Donna (Stompin Tom Connors) A tribute by Norma Albrecht WE SAID FAREWELL We said farewell, he’d done us well. Tom Connors was his name. Prince Edward Island was his home, before he met with fame. He traveled along th ose country roads, alone he hiked with his guitar. It took some time for him to climb and reach that far off star. In smoky pubs, he sang and chug a lugged, lots of friends he made. A story in every song he wrote, and a gentlemen all the way. Was tall and thin, and had a grin, and would love to hear you sing along. His hat and boots, were from his roots, a country boy was Tom. If you knew of all Tom went through, before his songs were hits, you might not think it by his jokes, but there were hard times to get to it. As in his song “To It and At It”, was his way to live, And who will forget, Bud the Spud, and all our favorites he did give. Another star of country heart has been laid to rest. With honor and with a life well lived, we know he did his best. His songs go on, we play them and we sing along, it’s like he still is here. Though he is not, he is not forgot, his tunes and stompin boot, we hear. So we listen while we travel, to those words he wrote. His guitar did twang, while he sang, and he could tell some jokes. The bugs in the jugs, the dung song, and the hockey song, were grand. He loved his country, and was loyal to his family and fans
