Donnie Yen: Monkey King I Listened to a Donnie Yen interview and he mentioned his movie the monkey king as being a mythological story. I know what mythology is but I needed to refresh my thoughts in reference to this movie to get a better understanding of where Donnie Yen was coming from in making this. And I read and looked at Joseph Campbells teachings on the power of myth years ago.The movie star wars came out of Joseph Campbells teachings on mythology. So I decided to share this break down on the power of myth and I feel maybe this refresher will give a greater In depth view of the monkey king movie and have something to talk about. Does anybody here know Donnie Yen spiritual practices and beliefs? I dont know but am interested in knowing. Example: An in depth cultivation of Taoism? For me this seems to be Donnie Yen more in depth side. And the side that attracted me to him to begin with. And why I stated that he is bigger than his career. I sense his indepth spiritual side. And feel that his mother started him on this path because of her back ground. This movie is him expressing that side of himself. Wikipedia: Joseph Campbell: Power of Myth Campbell defines the function of a mythology as the provision of a cultural framework for a society or people to educate their young, and to provide them with a means of coping with their passage through the different stages of life from birth to death. In a general sense myths include religion as well and the development of religion is an intrinsic part of a societys culture. A mythology is inevitably bound to the society and time in which it occurs and cannot be divorced from this culture and environment. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Power_of_Myth
