Dont Be That Way performed by Benny Goodman and His Orchestra was - TopicsExpress

Dont Be That Way performed by Benny Goodman and His Orchestra was the opening number at one of the famous concerts in American musical history, the 1938 Carnegie Hall Jazz Concert. This was the first time this new genre of music would be played at venue known more for symphonies than swing. Goodman and his orchestra mates were apprehensive when they first started playing; not knowing how the audience and the critics would react to them playing jazz in a staid institution like Carnegie Hall. The beginning of this instrumental starts out rather timidly but after you hear the audience clapping their approval you will then hear the orchestra gaining its confidence until finally bringing the song to a strong finish. The night, January 16, 1938, that made history in the jazz world was just starting. youtube/watch?v=gnL0gB8iItI
