Dont base your vote on Ebola or the so-called Islamic State next month, for a number of reasons. First, Ebola and Ibola arent partisan issues. NOBODY is in favor of sawing off heads or melting down from the inside. Democrats, Republicans, and (gasp) even Tea Partiers oppose these dangers. Second, nobody is up,for election who would really make that much of a difference. We arent electing the head of the CDC, or even the person who picks her or him. A Republican majority in the Senate would not change which troops go to Liberia. With the exception of some state-wide governors races, it just doesnt matter much to YOUR safety who you vote for this time around. Third, we need Democrats and Republicans to work together to solve these problems. Politicizing fear three weeks before the election is a great way to build in more gridlock. Any Republican who blames a Democrat for Ebola is part of the problem. any Democrat who blames a Republican for fearing Ebola is part of the problem. We all need to become part of the solution--and soon. I am going to TRY to shut up about both of these issues until after the election. But the day after we vote, Im going to be back with a long list of things to think about--including such nightmare scenarios as E-Bay-ola. (Who really mailed you that last bottle of not-quite-legal hCG supplement?).
