Ask the credit bureaus to place a security freeze on your credit report if you feel that the thief committing the fraud is particularly aggressive. The freeze will prevent credit card companies and other lenders from seeing your report, except with your express permission, which means that thieves wont be able to open new lines of credit. Closing Fraudulent Accounts Call the creditors of fraudulent accounts both by phone and in writing. You can prevent these businesses from reporting fraudulent accounts to the credit bureaus, according to the Privacy Rights website. If asked to fill out a fraud affidavit, access one from ftc.gov/bcp/edu/resources/forms/affidavit.pdf. You may be asked to provide a copy of the police report as well. Ask for a letter stating that the company has closed the fraudulent accounts. It should also state that any fraudulent debts were discharged.
