Dont bottle up grievances, PCC Commissioner tells Abaji residents Residents of Abaji in Abaji Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory have been advised against bottling up grievances but to always channel them through the Public Complaints Commission. The FCT Commissioner of the Public Complaints Commissioner, Barrister Obunike Ohaegbu gave the advice in Abaji on Tuesday during a mini town hall meeting organised by the FCT Complaints Commission at the palace of Ona of Abaji and the Chairman of FCT Council of Chiefs, Alhaji Dr. Adamu Yunusa. He said the meeting was part of efforts of the Commission in bringing its services closer to the people at grass roots. Ohaegbu who used the event to handover the Commissions complaints box to the community stressed that by putting the box in the traditional rulers palace, the Commission is determined to ease the stress of people in rural areas in reaching out to the Commission whenever they have the need to. While encouraging residents to make use of the box, he promised prompt attention to all complaints lodged at the Commission. We are here as I assured you that we are going to bring Public Complaints Commission FCT to Abaji. We are going to bring Public Complaints Commission FCT to the palace. We want Public Complaints Commission FCT to be part and parcel of what is happening here. So that if you are living within this area, you dont have to travel far to submit your petition to us, that was why we said we should bring the box here with the kind permission of your Highness to put the box somewhere here so that anybody within this area that have anything to complain against any government establishment or registered company, all you need to do is to write and put it there. We want to do it in such a way that anything you want to write, there is no procedure for you to write it. If you dont know how to write, just call somebody to help you write your name, phone number and date then put it inside the box. Be rest assured that you will get a call from us to explain to us what you want us to intervene in, he said. Responding, the traditional ruler said the visit was timely and Abaji being a gateway town to the FCT remains strategic. He said the Commissioners passion for excellence would encourage his people to trust in the Commissions ability to respond to their issues. As a matter of fact, we are grateful because you passed so many places before coming to Abaji and it is because of the love you have for Abaji that you are here. Abaji is a gateway to FCT and if theres any problem at all, like our people having problems with salaries, promotion and other things, such complaints will go into the box. As you have said, anyone that cannot write will simply put his or her phone number. This will indeed make it easier for our people to complain to you, he said At a similar mission at the Abaji General hospital, the Commissioner who was received by the Medical Director, Dr. Ayuba Kazzah said the presence of the Commissions box in the hospital will help the management understand the needs of their patients and enhance how they serve them. He said, When you talk about complaints box, there is this impression that someone is been witch-hunted, oh that somebody is trying to find fault. Public complaints Commission is not a fault finding institution what we try to do is to partner the agency wherever we are putting this box in such a way that it will assist us and the agency in their service delivery. With this box, you will feel the pulse of the people who come here, because as we speak here now, you dont actually know what is happening in the wards. You dont know what is happening within the hospital but you need a platform for you to actually understand what is happening. I am sure as a hospital, you already have other platforms through which you check and verify what is going on. But Public Complaints Commission FCT is coming in to partner with you as addition to what you already have, to complement what you already have on ground, he added. In his remarks, Dr. Kazzah said the visit of the Commissioner was an indication that the people in the rural areas remain a priority of the government. He was optimistic that the box, in addition to other feedback mechanisms in the hospital would assist the management guarantee service delivery to the community. We feel honoured to have the Commissioner Public Complaints Commission FCT come to us, because of our distance from headquarters, we somehow feel that nobody care about us apart from our own head office but when we see you people come around, it gives us some sense of belonging. So we are grateful. I think this box will help us a lot in trying to understand the heartbeat of the Community we are serving. It is going to contribute to what we already have. We also have a complaint box and hospital community forum where we meet with the community and try to understand the issues they have with the hospital and then provide answers and take corrections. We wont see this box as witch-hunting us but a way of helping us to render better services to the populace. We are very grateful that you have come, Kazzah said. Ohaegbu earlier was at the Abaji Area Council secretariat where he was received by the representative of the Council Chairman, Alhaji Yahaya Gawu who received the Area Councils complaint box on his behalf. elombah/detail.php?world=27936
