Dont know if anyone knows legality situations, in regards to pixel sorting copyrighted images, but I want to know, if you used pixel sorting or data bending in professional work that made money, how much do you have to manipulate a bunch of pixels before its yours. For example. I data bend a picture of a mcdonalds logo and it resembles the original logo a little bit, but is not really the same. Or a picture of a model in a music video, how much does she own those pixels before you own them? Can you cut her eyes out and change the color of her skin? Or legality wise, can they effectively sue you by proving that those pixels were originally theirs? It seems stupid, but I want some effective knowledge of the situation to empower my decision making.
