Dont know that i can fault Obama much for ordering airstrikes on Syria against ISIS. Never before have we seen a Middle Eastern terrorist group that is so diverse...filled not only with native Iraqis and Syrians, but also non-Arab english-speaking citizens all over Europe. Their message has spread so wide that it seems as if theyve successfully recruited your average Joes from off the street. Not saying theyre not skilled and not authentically Muslim, but its different. To me anyway, it inspires that feeling for one of the first times in Americas history that anyone could be a terrorist...that the face of terrorism is no longer a predominantly Arabian one...that the reason for such terrorist acts is now both parts religion and the all-consuming desire to shed some blood. So it is important to do something. However, am I convinced that Obama can find the kind of moderate Syrians that hes looking for to fight their own fight within their own borders? Not sure. America sponsoring one rebel group to fight another rebel group? I hope were not repeating history here, getting ourselves into another Reagan-esque Contra/Sandinista situation. I mean, its probably better than having to send our own troops over there yet again, but in a way, weve already repeated history because my mind instantly thinks about a song by a certain former Pink Floyd member which is just as relevant now as it was 22 years ago. So yeah, nice to hear that we wont be sending ground troops yet. But really, you damned if you do AND damned if you dont, because now were fighting with the bravery of being out of range.
