Dont let the world around you squeeze you into its mold.... Romans 12:2 Phillips I use the Phillips translation because of its choice of the word squeeze. One definition of the traditional word squeeze is: to apply pressure in order to extract juice, sap, or the like. So what are we allowing the world to extract from us? Apparently yet another young Christian lady has entered the “Dancing With the Stars” competition. Of course her costume was somewhat more covered and she did display her faith in Christ. Now this is not meant to judge anyone’s faith. We all have our individual tendencies toward worldly desires. What the writer of Romans was attempting to caution us against is continually allowing those fleshly desires and tendencies to take control of our thought life and actions. What about the tendency to allow popular television programs and even the cable news to conform or squeeze us into its mold of thinking? On Wednesdays at church a group of us are studying the book of Romans. We enjoy some lively discussion and prayer around the controversial topics in this book. Some of these topics run completely counter cultural to what the producers of popular TV are trying to promote. It’s always wise to remember that whatever you allow to consume the most of your time will be what consumes you. It could be hobbies, work or an over concern with yourself and your current circumstance. Whatever! The only way to avoid the world’s squeeze is to get more of God’s Word (the Bible) into your being than the continual screams and pressures of this world.
