Dont throw away your coffee filters! They are biodegradable and can be added into your compost pile or bin to provide good nutrients for your garden. Adding coffee filters (unbleached is best), aids in the Carbon:Nitrogen (C:N) ratio balance, since compost needs 2 parts nitrogen (GREEN materials) to 1 part carbon (BROWN materials). Green materials are table scrapes, veggie scraps, grass, green leaves, old plants pulled from your garden (minus the ones that are diseased), etc. Think living plants. Brown materials are biodegradable papers (such as coffee filters), dried leaves, twigs, etc. Think dead plants. Who knew??
