Don’t know if this is one of those – you had to be there - TopicsExpress

Don’t know if this is one of those – you had to be there stories. But here goes – see if you can wrap your head around this one. Ellie and I have had some weird experiences at home these last couple days – a woodpecker with a “concussion”, a “zoned out” robin, electrocuted squirrel who knocked our electricity out, along with mysterious blueberries splatted against our sliding door. And then there was today. I had an errand to run this morning in the next town over from us. Our wonderful contractor, Jim, was working in the lower driveway with a backhoe doing some repairs, but I saw where I could drive around his machinery if I went on the lawn. Actually, he was gone in his truck to dump some dirt at this exact time. So Ellie asks if I want to use her car, and I’m thinking if I can get around the backhoe with her car, I can do so with mine – so I declined. I went outside, walked around the front of my car and got in, and then proceeded to back up in order to turn around and go down the driveway. I hardly moved a few feet and BAM! I hadn’t seen anything in the rearview mirror before, but I looked again and saw Jim’s huge construction trailer rolling down the driveway, smashing into our small flatbed trailer, and the 2 trailers now curving around onto the grass and going over the hill. Holy crap! is all I could think. Ellie comes out and says what the h-ll happened? I started to explain but couldn’t help laughing – this was a Laurel and Hardy-type occurrence. Obviously, I did not know that Jim had parked his trailer behind my car – and Ellie had known it and thought I did too. And there the 2 trailers sat – in the middle of the yard. I laughed all the way to Cobleskill and back. When Jim came back, he began digging again and didn’t even notice that I had knocked his trailer down the hill. I was so darned lucky. Thank goodness the little trailer stopped the big one. They could have gone in the pond, could have gone into our neighbor’s yard below us, or even beyond that onto Route 145!
