Don’t thank a veteran for serving… Thank them for seeing what can’t be unseen. Thank them for doing what had to be done. Thank them for sleeping while afraid to wake up. Thank them for waking and facing another day. Thank them for their humanity in a place with none. Thank them for the opportunity to speak what you detest. Thank them for corners without tanks. Thank them for carrying their nightmares. Thank them for being the heroes we wish we could be. On behalf of the men and women of The Fishers Fire Department, we thank our soldiers, past, present and future, for all you have given, and for all you continue to give. We acknowledge your strength, devotion, and hearts and we are humbled in your presence. We honor your families and recognize they have fought and continue to fight beside you. Finally, we wish you in heart, mind and body, a peace that will bring you home safely.
