Don’t you think I know it too? After a while dreams just don’t come true When the age finally catches up with you You can force a smile but can’t help feeling the blues An obstacle they say; it’s a mountain of trust Like Snakes & Ladder you slip down in the lust Of getting ahead in this life at all costs But you keep scratching hope and keep missing the musts It’s hard to allude to what you had once won Every battle that presented itself without holding a gun And everybody who hid under the raging sun Now conquers your will with a look saying you’re done Is it true when they talk about second chances? Is it true when that it smiles with fleeting glances? Sometimes it so happens that you run out of luck You look on ahead hoping you’d duck into a truck No end in sight; guns blazing your way Bullets of love from those eyes now hold sway Every hurt that should end you once and for all Enslave your brain to get ahead with the next fall The heart keeps pumping that damn old blood The body is on ready to present to the flood The saggy old fat-riddled mass to flow away But some bad old haunt keeps getting in the way What goes around must come around Found out that advice to be true and sound A monster I must have been for all of those years In this scorching life flesh is on a constant sear Every burn that is caused traces back to me Every smile that was torn, smiles back in glee Later or soon the world catches up to you For a payback all blames are slapped on to you For people like us no end’s a relief Try to find peace in endless moments of grief Yet you tend to learn to live with the hurt to retrieve what’s left of your beliefs - Omar Alavi
