Door County Cross Country Ski Report for March 4, 2014 Here we are in March but both our weather and our ski report look like they belong in January. The silver lining though is that the days are longer for skiing. All ski areas across the county remain open – get out an enjoy some spring skiing! Potawatomi State Park Conditions: The last snowfall was 4 inches on March 4. The Green, Blue, Black and Red trails were groomed for skate and diagonal stride skiing on March 4. The skate lane is medium firm with great glide. The diagonal stride track is firm and deep. Both skating and diagonal stride rated very good. (Gene Kastenson) Crossroads at Big Creek Conditions: All trails were re-groomed since our recent snowfall. Tracks were set. The new snow helped improve the conditions at Crossroads as it had become icy in recent weeks. Remember that the Friends of Crossroads do have free equipment use on Sunday afternoons from 1:00 until 3:00. (Dick Weidman) Whitefish Dunes State Park Conditions: Trail Conditions - Good to Very Good. Trails last groomed, March 1st. Trails have had considerable use but tracks have held up well. Two inches new snow on March 3rd has been skied in and tracks are free of debris. Plan is to groom all trails prior to the weekend. (Rich Dirks) Peninsula State Park Conditions: Good overall. Snow depth varies up to 20 inches. Ski trails are in good conditions. No current report from the trail groomer. Newport State Park Conditions: All trails have not been groomed but the few skiers that have been out have created a good track over the old base. Conditions are very good for March. Grooming will be limited in the month of March but we ask that hikers and snowshoers please respect the track.
