Doris Kotch Maintained family’s Serbian traditions Doris “Mutchie” Kotch, 82, died peacefully March 6, 2014. She was born March 30, 1931, a daughter of Mike and Angelia Popovich Kotch. Ms. Kotch was an independent soul with a puckish sense of humor. Though never married, she was a favorite of children, who found her honest and wry. She knew the intricacies of the local swimming hole, as well as the pinball machines at the local store. Ms. Kotch helped maintain her family’s Serbian traditions, for many years hosting Orthodox Christmas and Easter gatherings, including a whole roast pig, for her extensive and far-flung relatives. She was a lifelong resident of Crucible, Greene County, where she worked at Stan-Lee’s Dairy Bar, delivered mail to neighbors despite not being a postal worker, mowed lawns and maintained the modest home where she was born. She spent her last year at Baptist Homes in Mt. Lebanon, where she found new friends and wonderful caregivers. Surviving are her twin sister, Dolores “Dee” (Thomas) Conlin; her brother, J. Daniel Kotch and his wife, Sally; and numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, great-grandnieces and great-grandnephews. Deceased, in addition to her parents, are sisters Amy (Leonard) Neimetz and Minnie (Pete) Garone and brothers Steve, Nick (Faye), Pete (Erma), George (Irene) and William (Edna Lee) Kotch. In accordance with her wishes, there will be no public viewing, but a memorial gathering is planned for family and friends. In lieu of flowers or other remembrances, donations to Baptist Homes, 489 Castle Shannon Boulevard, Pittsburgh, PA 15234, are encouraged in recognition of the care they provided to Ms. Kotch. Arrangements are by Elmer L. Herman Funeral Home, Pittsburgh.
