Dosent this sound familiar...rush, rush, rush...now we have to rush for the Comprehensive Claims...even though our trust has been working with the office of treaty settlements for the last 18 months.. We have at least two separate NGati Rangitihi claimant bodies who have not been consulted by TMONRT re-their claims that TMONRT are wanting to take over. TMONRT have just publicised their strategy of how they will proceed to negotiate with other Iwi who also lay claim to the whenua in question. Anei: ngatirangitihi.iwi.nz/uploads/6/9/0/9/6909618/te_mana_mandate_strategy.pdf Submissions opposing the strategy for various reasons were submitted by NR whanaunga before the deadline of June 25th, 2013. Each of us submitters received the same letter from the Office of Treaty Settlements on the 16th of July, inviting us to a 2 hour hui at Rangitihi Marae from 2-4pm, 24th July. A whole eight days notice for myself, Tim Morrison of Tamaki Makaurau, Douglas Johnstone of Oamaru, and the Ngati Rangitihi Raupatu Trust and maybe others. The OTS letter received also stated that they had also invited TMONRT to attend merely to answer questions we had for them. In this two awesome hours, OTS also wanted to speak on the Crown policies re-mandates and the Marine Coastal Act. TWO HOURS on a WEDNESDAY afternoon. To expect a whanaunga to travel from Auckland let alone Oamaru for this, insults our intelligence if nothing else. We have been notified that the staff and board members of TMONRT attended, had a powhiri for OTS and enjoyed the discussions already planned for the agenda. I do wonder if TMONRT might have been more than just a last minute invite...like us...
