Doubles vendor Kashwanath Parsad appeared before magistrate Ava - TopicsExpress

Doubles vendor Kashwanath Parsad appeared before magistrate Ava Vandenburg-Bailey yesterday and pleaded guilty to vending without a licence, pitching a tent and unlawfully obstructing the passageway. The 33 year old vendor from Moruga was on the corner of High and Penitence Streets, San Fernando around 4.30 p.m. on Tuesday when he was approached by constable Kofia Dover. Ten coolers including four with bara and the others containing channa, pepper sauce and drinks were taken to the courthouse yesterday in the tray of a van. The father of two said he was under the impression that all he needed to conduct his trade was a food badge. The magistrate explained to him that just as he could not sell on a persons private property without permission, he was not allowed to sell on High Street without permission from the San Fernando City Corporation. Parsad was fined $800 for vending without a licence. In default he will face two weeks hard labour. He was also fined $150 on each charge of pitching a tent and obstructing the passage way. He will face a week hard labour should the money go unpaid. (Story originally reported by Express Newspaper)
