Dozens of Energex crews worked through the night to safely reconnect power to around 11,000 homes and businesses hit by wild weather across South East Queensland yesterday. Worst hit areas were around the Bribie Island-Caboolture, Gold Coast and Somerset council regions where lightning strikes hit electricity equipment and tree branches were blown over powerlines. Wind gusts of around 100kmh were recorded, while across SEQ more than 5600 lightning strikes lit up the skies. Yesterdays storms serve as a timely reminder that the severe weather season is still here. Home owners a urged to stay vigilant and prepare their properties.
