Dr. David Wyrick, Dean of the School of Science and Engineering at AUI, has been named the inaugural Associate Executive Director of the American Society for Engineering Management. In this volunteer role, he will work closely with ASEMs Executive Director, Dr. Bill Daughton, and the ASEM Board of Directors. This is a great opportunity to serve the profession and engineering managers worldwide, Wyrick said. Being at AUI brings international recognition to the role that the University, Morocco, and Africa can play in the future. Dean Wyrick will help ensure continuity of operations and management of ASEM, and he will work on a number of strategic initiatives that includes the continued internationalization of the society. He completed his term as President in Morocco after joining AUI in 2012, helped establish the first ASEM student chapter in Africa at AUI last year, and he presented a keynote speech on professional engineering management certification earlier this June in Beijing at the invitation of the Chinese Academy of Engineering. Meeting with members of the national academies of engineering from around the world this summer demonstrates the increasing importance and influence of engineering management, Wyrick said. Dr. Bill Daughton, ASEMs Executive Director and Director of Engineering and Applied Sciences Extended studies at the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs, made the announcement on August 14. Dr. Daughton stated, Dave has been heavily involved with ASEM for many years and has demonstrated the passion and energy necessary to help ASEM move forward.
