Dr Jim Richards PRIDE or HUMILITY? Proverbs 13:10 says, “Only by pride cometh contention: but with the well advised is wisdom.” This is an interesting contrast of thought. People with pride have contention. The well-advised have wisdom. The person of pride can never be advised because he is interested in how it looks. He pretends to have it all figured out. Jesus told the Pharisees that they were blind because they insisted that they could see. Pride prevents us from receiving the wisdom of God. When we insist that we see we make it impossible to hear the voice of God or man. If one is to receive instruction, he must first admit the need for instruction. Pride prohibits admitting need.
