Dr Karen Deller sent us this update from the ASTD Conference today: The conference got off to a fast start in Sunday. I attended three sessions, one on story telling as a way of making training more entertaining. The theory is that all societies and cultures have story tellers who are responsible for handing down stories that perpetuate the culture and that these are entertaining so people listen and remember the key points, so why not use the same theory in training? My second session looked at the use of mobile technology in role playing, to deliver just in time, practiced role plays that can be critiqued by a coach in real time. Very interesting. The last session explored the idea of using assessment centres and games to build management competences across functional teams. Sounds very interesting and innovative!
