Dr. Maya Angelou (Marguerite Ann Johnson) native of St Louis, Missouri, was one of the most significant voices of our time; an icon of triumph. STILL I RISE has always given me strength, & during such turbulent times as these~ still serves as a poignant, though relevant reminder. The below is from the CAGED BIRD SONGS CD, named from one of her most prominent works I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings, testifying to the savageness of the Jim Crow South.
