Dr Morris and my family first met in the fall of 2002. I was 17 years old and just gotten home to home from Mass General Hospital in Boston where I had to have a total pancretectomy due to hereditary pancreatitis. Dr. Morris was always there for us. From calming my parents when they were worried about not being tech savvy and allowing their 17 year old to completely manage her pump herself, picking up the phone at any hour for any problem, being there as I delt with graduating high school...then paramedic school while still recovering from a huge illness and two major surgeries, to being there while I planned my wedding and being at the hospital to welcome my son Alex into the world. Whenever I picture her I think back to her cradling my newborn in my room at Duke and sharing my familys joy and excitement in something we didnt believe could happen. I will never forget my last office visit with Dr. Morris before she retired. She gave me the go ahead for my husband and I to began trying for our second child. That evening I called her at midnight to tell her the news that I was pregnant with my daughter Sophie! In 2012 I got word I would be getting a chocolate lab puppy to train as my diabetic alert dog. I called Dr Morris to ask her permission to name the puppy after her. Dr. Morris the dog lover she was of course was thrilled and totally approved. Morrie has lived up to her namesake and is always there for me. I feel Dr. Morris is now watching over me through her. Today as I went through my contact list on my phone I scrolled by Dr Morris number and it hit me that I wouldnt be able to call her anymore just to chat or get her advice on something my new endocrine has told me to do........I have jumped around with endos in the last 5 years as I cant find anyone that even remotely fills Dr. Morris s shoes. She will be forever missed in our hearts and we will never forget her love and kindness!
