Dr.Papa Kwesi Nduom #MESSAGE_TO_GHs Fellow Ghanaians, This is what our Minister of Finance said when he presented the 2013 budget in Parliament. How should we look at this optimism and celebratory view against the decision to run to the IMF to gain credibility? We must learn that short term thinking is killing the Ghanaian dream. Mr. Speaker, we have achieved macroeconomic stability and growth on the basis of strong real and external sector performance, including low rates of inflation and the build-up of substantial foreign exchange reserves. We have achieved these goals against the backdrop of the global financial crisis; we have also acted decisively to implement policies that address the challenges that occasionally confront our forward march.” When a government administration goes to the IMF, it means it has reached the depth of its ability to manage the economy. It signals to the world that it needs the IMF to lend its credibility to its plans and ability to manage the economy so that other governments and international agencies can find it easier to do business with it. We must not promise to do what we know we cannot or will not do - due to politics, lack of resources, etc. We need long term thinking and thinkers. We cannot continue to put election-winning ahead of nation-building. Those who want to harvest where they did not sow, must be pushed aside!
