Dr Vandana Shiva nicely sums up whats wrong with the world here: https://youtube/watch?v=7M3WJQbnHKc if you dont have time/interest to watch the whole thing, watch from 56:30 to the end for her summation/answer to the question: what should we do? its all about food and growing. i was watching a video of Toby Hemenway today and he used the phrase, starting where we are. so where are we? i think we need to define what this group is about and think about how to move towards the dream of food forests in the city of trees. this is the blurb ive put for this group: we are a group of community minded, boise permaculture folks who would like to see one or more public sites developed into food forests to demonstrate the richness of permaculture community. we are inspired by the folks in seattle at the beacon food forest and other sites please take some time and think about this and share your thoughts to define this. one thing that comes to my mind in light of starting where we are is my garden. i know many of you are doing cool things in your gardens too. this is a good time to be thinking and planning what to do in the spring. ive got a wheelbarrow load of seeds and dreams for this next year. a large part of my desire to see food forests in boise would be fulfilled by seeing more folks like us living in one. imagine our neighbors walking by picking cool fruit and asking questions like whats that incredibly lovely smell? when they pass the black currant hedge, or whats that? when they see an herb spiral. no better place than out your front and back door to learn this stuff. if we get the opportunity to do this on public land, well know what to do and have plants, seeds and starts to do so. maybe we could plan some get togethers in the new year and do a chapter by chapter through Tobys book Gaias Garden and work together on the projects were already up to our armpits in? what do you think? anyway just wanted to put some thoughts out here and say happy holidays!
