Dr Wood asks where did the towers go on the assumption that the rubble pile was too small. I would just like to put that to the test. If anyone can improve on my calculations for a debris pile, please do. Assuming that none of the pile was below ground level, that the majority of the steel was not turned to dust, that there were no air pockets and the rubble was distributed in a single cone: WTC site was 17 acres, and there was 1.2 million tons of debris, using steel weight to volume conversions, and the formula for the height of a cone, I calculate that a cone of steel debris would not be more than 20m tall at the peak. Leaves Dr Woods question a bit lame. Would the mathematically minded like to check the calculations?
