Dr. Young does rarely make house calls, especially if the patient is not exactly cooperative. The San Diego Museum of Natural History recently asked Dr. Young to examine a Speckled Rattlesnake for facial swelling. Keepers from the San Diego Zoo came to restrain the snake for its exam. It was determined that there was an infection of the heat sensing organs near the nostrils. The museum staff is treating the snake with antibiotic injections and it appears to be improving.
