Draft of Salem Community College lecture Oct 9 Augmenting the hands on concentration of glass working classes in the fully equipped Paul J. Stankard Studio and Lab, Salem Community College has expanded the program with a unique visual and intellectual resources complimenting our students learning experience. They are: an annual International Flameworking Conference, a permanent collection of contemporary glass art and scientific glass apparatus, and the newly established Contemporary Glass Resource Center located in our College’s Library on the main campus. By displaying a major collection of contemporary glass art and significant examples of laboratory glass apparatus the school nourishes ideas about what can be done. Industries respect for Salem’s scientific glassblowing program has attracted generous donations of complex scientific glass apparatus complimented by the Patricia and Paul Stankard Contemporary Glass Collection. The collection primarily flameworked glass, gives the students the opportunity to experience masterworks created by internationally respected makers, supporting the idea that to do great work you have to experience great work.
