The reason why people fall prey to distractions and stage fright is misdirected attention. c. When it comes to stage fright and distractions, audience is a key factor. d. Lack of Confidence, Ways to refocus i. Fourth Wall (Imaginary construct between actor and audience) 1. One of the worst settings to perform art/theatre is in a school setting, very easy to see people you recognize in this setting and get distracted 2. Fourth Wall is not confined to Stage Acting. It can also be used in movies and television (Ex. Star Wars Eps. 1-3) ii. Being/Staying in the moment is a good way to avoid stage fright/distractions 1. The more you engage in disciplined and appropriate mental activity on stage, the less room for distractions and fright 2. Bring “Stage You” to forefront 3. Most important question is “What’s my line, what’s my cue and where am I going?” 4. More important things: What character has on his/her mind at each passing moment? 5. Staying in the moment helps “fourth wall” become real and makes you react naturally and realistically to what’s going on. 6. Being in the moment allows you to react to everything in an honest and sincere way. iii. It is impossible as an actor to prepare TOO MUCH 1. PREPARATION IS KEY 2.
