Dredging 101: sea sediment gets stirred up and makes the water - TopicsExpress

Dredging 101: sea sediment gets stirred up and makes the water cloudy, which blocks out sunlight, which stops plants and plankton (at the bottom of the food chain) from growing, which means less oxygen in the water (so animals die and pests grow) and less food for the rest of the food chain (so animals die). Dredging also can stir up metals and toxic nasties that can cause all sorts of trouble. AND it can stir up cysts of toxic algae that can poison fish. The list goes on. All of this affects the food we eat. The moral of the story: avoid dredging! abc.net.au/news/2013-04-17/scientist-defends-report-linking-dredging-to-fish-disease/4634338
