Drifting through the ether from a golden time when REAL theme - TopicsExpress

Drifting through the ether from a golden time when REAL theme tunes flowed like tap water...... This tune seemed to, errr, haunt my young psyche and had a subliminal influence on my music ever since childhood. And those session musicians who turned up to studios to make music like this, made sure they didnt just read the dots but truly immersed themselves in the music and afforded their paid work with the attention to detail, care and spirit that is missing in most recordings made in the shark-infested waters of todays music mainstream. No half arsed measures, no inferior, bodged or shoddy workmanship, no lazy kak but people who really sweated and played their minuscule roles in orchestra and band with huge aplomb and with massive effect. So many wonderful small screen and big screen musical themes came in that golden era. And it may not be very punk rock to say it but those jobbing session musicians were equally brilliant in the pop and rock field, whether it was Jimmy Page, Carol Kaye, Larry Knechtel, Steve Cropper, Big Jim Sullivan, Jimi Hendrix, Billy Preston, John Paul Jones, Bootsy Collins, Hal Blaine, James Jamerson, Vic Flick, Booker T, Earl Van Dyke, Bobby Byrd, etc or whether they were unknown musicians who would never gain recognition, they were right on their game. Listen to the playing on, say, a Walker Brothers record or the extras on those Beatle tunes and so forth and you hear some amazing performances. Same when it came to this kind of a musical trade.
