Driverless trains, pilotless planes, staff less offices and fatherless homes! Robot soldiers, police officers, medicals surgeons and opticians. I am wondering as we move to the days of automated world where computers and robots replace human brains, if this is the step in the right direction. I wonder if artificial intelligence could truly replace the human touch and warmth. I have a car that can do reverse park automatically. All I have to do is park parallel to a car with adequate space behind and press one button. The car reverses and parks. The first time I tested it I was very scared and spooked out as I stared with shock at the way the steering wheel moved by itself while the car reversed. My instinct was desperate for me to slum the break! I resisted. While I have experienced a car doing its automated reverse parking, sat on a drive less train and ploughed through the computerised voice operated customer service centres, I cannot imagine coming home and getting a hug from a robot instead of my wife and kids! I cannot imagine robots behaving in the same way as human beings where we have reflexes, reactions, emotions and feelings. I cannot imagine mechanical robots feeling pain or joy. I cannot imagine going to a restaurant for a meal and being served by robots. I am sightly anxious as we move more and more towards automated lifestyles. I would never like to lose the human touch and would hate if we replaced compassion with cold and calculated robots!
