Driving Free Enterprise Gone are the days of politics being left to the politicians. 2013 sees the game being taken to the patriotic heart strings of Australians by the Labor Government in conjunction with multinational car manufactures that seem to be spending less time making cars and more time with their hand out exclaiming to Australians, the so called difficulties that they face assembling cars in Australia. Granted, business leaders around the country flinch every time Wayne Swan and now Chris Bowen holds a press conference, however, I refuse to believe that it is not economicaly viableto make cars in Australia. On the contrary I believe that this would not only be the best place to start a car company by Australians for Australians, but now would be the best time! Let’s take a look at the facts, with the resources boom tapering now is a good time to prepare for the influx of skilled labour returning from the mines, it also allows for the purchase of raw materials at a considerable discount to what they have been. We also have the advantage of reduced transport expenses, we don’t have to move the raw material as far. I know what you’re thinking “the cost of labour?” my answer, look at the greatest car and technology manufacturers in the world, even in the current economic climate they can bail out Europe. I contend that not only could we be as good as the Germans, we could be better. Take a look at manufacturing plants in Germany, the magnificent sight of thousands robots working together faster, more consistent and cheaper than our Asian friends could ever dream of. The labour used, is largely in development, improvement and servicing of products, something that we find in the staff of our current car manufacturers that are getting laid off (fired) all the time. Australia has the people to develop an incredibly strong, resilient car industry utilising the latest technologies, our Universities and Tafe’s are providing a world class education and our ingrained patriotism and drive not to give up on something we believe in gives us an unfair competitive advantage. Let Australia become internationally competitive without workers taxes having to pay for their jobs. When we finally see the end of the leaches that are sucking the money out of every taxpayer hip pocket, we will see the rise of what Australia has the potential to be without the support of government. The question you may ask is that if I think that now is the perfect time to start manufacturing cars in Australia, why don’t I stop typing and do it. It’s simple if the current car assemblers in Australia aren’t bluffing and finally close up shop we entrepreneurs are out here waiting so as not to go up in business against government subsidised companies, because in doing so we know we can’t be competitive, it would be the Federal Government verses a private enterprise. A call out to all entrepreneurs, be patient our time will come, if it doesn’t I’m certain we can think of something. SCOTT NEWSTEAD
